It’s not unusual if you look at lot of the Russian literature of this time, there’s quite often a character like Dolokhov who can’t really do real life, so he absolutely thrives in the war situations. He’s a briliant soldier, he has absolutely no problem with killing people and he relishes it.

Sometimes he’s, you know, in literary theory described as maybe being a psychopath. I don’t think he is, I think he just has a sort of aversion to domestic married life and this is kind of the opposite of that.
